We have provided our schools with essential clothing items for more than 20 years because we recognize the importance of new clothing in helping children feel comfortable at school and improving their chances for success.
Students in low-income families can experience a variety of negative consequences, including low self-esteem, poor academic performance, and increased risk of bullying. When students in need have new clothing and sneakers, their chances for academic success improve. Having appropriate clothing means students are better able to participate in school, and that positively impacts their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development.
We contact our school liaisons monthly during the school year to see what items they need. Our new clothing team then provides the basics, such as T-shirts, pants, hoodies, underwear, socks, sneakers, winter jackets, and gloves. In addition, we provide upper-grade students with basic grooming kits that include items such as shampoo, hairbrush, deodorant, soap, washcloth, toothpaste, and a toothbrush. Schools use the kits as part of their hygiene curriculum. Both students and their teachers appreciate the kits.
