In April we hosted a Golf Tournament and Luncheon fundraiser at Westfields Golf Club in Clifton, VA. The weather was perfect, the club was gorgeous, the food was excellent, and the event was a huge success, with over $12,000 raised. We had raffle prizes and a silent auction for all, and tournament and contest prizes for golfers. All money raised directly benefits our programs that provide food, clothing and books to children in local Title 1 schools.
We want to thank all the individuals and businesses that donated to help make the event a success, especially, Steve Mulder, realtor with Heller Coley Reed of Long and Foster and Steve Mincemoyer of RETR.
An exciting day for Assistance League of Northern Virginia and the students at Pine Spring Elementary School in Falls Church! We don’t know who had more fun, the children who got to choose a book of their own, or our volunteers who helped and watched them make their choices. Pine Spring is a Title 1 school with approximately 640 students from Pre-K through 6th grade. At our book fair, every student went home with a new book through our “Build a Child’s Library” program.
As volunteers for our small nonprofit, our dedicated members know that we make a significant difference in the lives of the students and families we serve through our philanthropic programs. The heartfelt testimonial by a counselor at one of our schools illustrates how our support in providing food, clothing, sneakers, books, and toiletries brings hope and dignity to the most vulnerable of our neighbors. We learn that a single item – like a pair of sneakers or a winter coat – can have a profound impact on someone’s life. After watching the video, we hope you’ll be motivated to join Assistance League of Northern Virginia, to make a donation to support our efforts, or to volunteer with a cause you care about and help transform lives in our community. The ripple effects will be immeasurable.
We hosted a wonderful Italian dinner and live music fundraiser at the lovely Springfield Golf and Country Club. Guests enjoyed a delicious, four-course Italian dinner and live music provided by Alex Alburqueque, a Peruvian native baritone who has performed with many opera companies, including the Washington National Opera, Maryland Lyric Opera, and Opera Camerata of Washington DC. Alex was a big hit at last year’s event and returned this year for a terrific encore performance. A 50/50 raffle, a marketplace, and a wine pull put the “fun” in “fundraising.” We have so many people and businesses to thank for helping to make this event a huge success. We want to thank the wonderful people at the Springfield Golf and Country Club, including club manager, Steve Lawson, and the events coordinator, Jody Henderson, who were very helpful and accommodating. We appreciate all their support. We also want to acknowledge Basik’s at Home, Café Bottega Italia Leesburg, Manassas Olive Oil, and Cigar Town for their generous donations to our marketplace and raffle prizes. It was truly a grand event!
On a glorious October evening, as the sun glowed over the vineyards, The Winery at Bull Run provided the perfect setting for a night of good wine, delicious food and friendship, both old and new, at our fundraiser. The wine flowed and the guests enjoyed appetizers provided by a dedicated member. The evening ended with a raffle drawing for a basket of wine and other goodies provided by a generous donor. All proceeds from this event will support our programs that provide essentials such as food, clothing, and books to children in local Title 1 schools.
