Books and Beyond: Empowering Young Readers

Learning to read with confidence can change a child’s future.  Books and Beyond pairs Assistance League Sierra Foothills volunteers with second and third grade students who benefit from one-on-one attention, meeting weekly on campus to build reading skills, comprehension, and a lifelong love of learning.

Provided 534 Hours of Reading Support for 33 Elementary Students This Year

Did you know that children who aren’t reading well by third grade are at risk of falling behind? Reading comprehension is the foundation for every subject—and with your help, students can gain the confidence and skills to succeed in school and beyond.

Many children struggle with reading, which in turn erodes the confidence they have in their other abilities.

Left unaddressed, early literacy difficulties often undermine a child’s entire self-esteem.

A consistent, caring adult—listening, encouraging, and showing up—can change that.
