At Assistance League Norman, our programs are designed to meet real, local needs with compassion, dignity, and direct action. Led by dedicated volunteers, each program focuses on improving the well-being of children and adults in our community—helping them feel confident, supported, and equipped to succeed.
From providing new clothing and a book to students through Operation School Bell®, to offering comfort items for children in crisis and essential care kits for survivors, our work is hands-on and impactful. We also invest in literacy, support seniors, and develop young leaders through our Assisteens® program.
Every program we offer is rooted in a simple goal: transforming the lives of children and families in our community.
We assist nearly 1,500 pre-K–12 students annually from Norman and Little Axe Public Schools. In a store-like atmosphere, students select new clothing and essential items, including one coat, three shirts, two pairs of pants, five pairs of underwear, five pairs of socks, a grooming kit, one new book, a stuffed animal, and a $50 JCPenney voucher for a new pair of shoes.
Book Of My Own provides children with age-appropriate books to build literacy skills, encourage a love of reading, and support academic success.
This program provides stuffed comfort bears to children who are in crisis or facing other traumatic situations. Bears are distributed to children through local agencies. Since 1988 Assistance League Norman members have provided comfort bears to children in the community who are in the midst of a crisis or facing a traumatic event. Bears are distributed to children through local agencies such as the Women’s Resource Center, Bethesda, Mary Abbott Children’s House, and EMSTAT.
We provide grooming kits that offer essential items and compassionate support to individuals facing crisis and trauma. These kits are distributed to individuals seeking safety at the Women’s Resource Center leaving their homes due to domestic violence situations.
Members provide fellowship and recreation to senior adults at Full Circle Day Center through activities, entertainment, and special celebrations. Full Circle is a nonprofit organization that provides daily adult respite care. Chapter members provide bingo prizes for the Full Circle clients.
