Founded in 1974, Assistance League Norman is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives through hands-on community service. For more than 50 years, our members have served children and families in Norman and surrounding communities through practical programs that provide dignity, confidence and hope.
Assistance League Norman began in April 1970 as the Assistance Guild of Norman and was officially chartered on May 2, 1974, as the 56th chapter of National Assistance League.
Our chapter is part of a national organization whose roots trace back to the late 1800s, when founder Anne Banning and her friend Ada Edwards Laughlin organized volunteer-driven charitable efforts in Southern California. Their vision grew into National Assistance League, established in 1935, and continues today through chapters across the country.
What began as a small group of dedicated volunteers has grown into a lasting force for good in Norman and surrounding communities.
In 1978, Assistance League Norman launched Operation School Bell®, now our signature program, providing new clothing, personal care items and books to students in Norman and Little Axe Public Schools.
Over the years, our impact has expanded through additional programs including:
Located at 809 Wall Street in Norman, Assistance League Norman continues to thrive through the dedication of our volunteers, donors and community partners. While honoring our rich history, we remain focused on meeting the evolving needs of children and families in our community.
