Operation Bear Hug brings comfort, reassurance, and a sense of security to children and individuals facing difficult or traumatic moments. Through this heartfelt program, cuddly teddy bears are delivered to local hospitals and emergency responders to provide emotional support during times of crisis, fear, or uncertainty.
This collaborative community effort partners with local hospitals and medical professionals who distribute the bears to children and elderly individuals receiving emergency care or experiencing challenging circumstances. What may seem like a simple teddy bear often becomes a source of comfort, helping ease anxiety and bringing a small moment of warmth and compassion when it is needed most.
Throughout the year, Assistance League of Huntington Beach volunteers work to ensure these special bears are readily available for patients and families in our community. In 2024–2025 alone, our dedicated Operation Bear Hug Committee delivered 1,595 teddy bears, investing $7,582 to support local hospitals and emergency care programs. Bears were provided to Huntington Beach Hospital Emergency Room, Fountain Valley Hospital Emergency Room, Fountain Valley Hospital Pediatric ICU, and Orange Coast Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. The nurses and medical teams consistently share how much these bears mean to the patients they serve and how often they help bring comfort during stressful situations.
Operation Bear Hug is a simple gesture with a lasting impact—offering comfort, kindness, and a reminder that no one in our community faces hardship alone.
