Donor Privacy Policy

Purpose: Assistance League® of Stockton, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is committed to protecting the privacy of donors contributing monetary or in-kind donations and honoring their acknowledgment preferences.

1. Protection of Donor Information

Assistance League of Stockton does not copy, reproduce, publish, distribute, share, or sell donor names, personal contact information, or donation details to any outside individual or business, except as required by law, for grant applications, or for bank credit/debit card transactions processed without prior donor consent.

2. Donor Acknowledgment

With written permission, Assistance League of Stockton may acknowledge donors by name and/or donation description in materials such as newsletters, brochures, press releases, event programs, solicitation letters, the chapter website, or other expressions of gratitude. Donors may request samples of these publications by contacting the chapter.

3. Opt-Out Option

At least annually, donors (new and continuing) will be provided a means (e.g., a check-off box) to opt out of acknowledgment in any printed or online materials. Each donation is treated individually, with multiple donations from a single donor receiving consistent consideration. If a donor opts out, their name and address will only be accessible to chapter members or staff managing chapter business.

4. Policy Availability

A printed copy of this Donor Privacy Policy is available upon request and, if applicable, on the chapter’s website.

5. Record Retention

Donation records are maintained per applicable federal and state record retention standards and stored securely by the chapter.

6. Additional Provisions (if applicable)

  • Thrift Shop: If Assistance League of Stockton operates a thrift shop, donor names contributing to the shop will not be publicized without written permission.
  • Photographs: Donor photographs, or those of minors (with parent/guardian consent), will not be used in any chapter publication without written consent.
  • Chapter Members: Personal information of chapter members will not be shared without written consent, except as outlined in the National Assistance League® Donor Privacy Policy (on file with the chapter). Member donations receive the same protections as outlined herein, and members will receive this policy annually.

7. Compliance with Laws

This policy complies with all applicable federal and state laws governing donor privacy and data protection, including any state-specific regulations regarding charitable organizations and donor information. Donors may contact the chapter for details on applicable legal standards.
