May and June are my favorite months with Assistance League of North Coast (ALNC). Our May chapter meeting is full of joy. Each of our 15 programs is featured with poster displays and pamphlets. Members can speak with program chairs and explore their interests in all that ALNC offers. ALNC needs our volunteers on board for a successful 2026-27 year.
May is also the month that we install our new officers on the Board of Directors. This ceremony is never dull. One year, we were all compared to Wonder Woman and given Wonder Woman action figures. To this day, Wonder Woman sits on my kitchen counter. She reminds me that whatever the day holds, I must give it my all! Another year, all new officers were assigned spirit animals. My spirit animal was a prairie dog. I think I wanted to be a lion, but surely the careful and helpful nature of the prairie dog must guide me in some way. Last year, Hula Gorilla made a guest appearance and awarded each new officer a beautiful orchid. If you want to take part in this fun but meaningful ceremony, please attend our chapter meeting on May 28. Not only will we have the honor of recognizing our new Board of Directors, but we will leave with shared memories.
I must also mention the Aviara Golf Tournament, another May event. Steve Lincoln of Lincoln Realty has put together this event for the benefit of ALNC for the last fifteen years. All proceeds from the Aviara Golf Tournament are donated to our organization and help fund the programs we offer the children in our community. Kudos to Steve Lincoln, the ALNC members who help, and all who participate.
Our June chapter meeting includes our Scholarship winners and Teacher Grant winners. We hear stories of challenges and dreams from these high school seniors looking forward to college. Teacher Grant winners share the projects they have created for their students. Their students benefit from the learning opportunities provided by teacher creativity made possible by the ALNC grants. I leave our June meeting believing that all is right with the world and that our future is more secure because of these young people.
I look forward to sharing these meetings with you!
