Welcome!
Starting way back in the 1940s, our chapter of Assistance League operated a Thrift Shop and had administrative offices located on the Balboa Peninsula. Fast forward to the 1980s – the Thrift Shop was doing a thriving business and often received higher end items including crystal, antiques, and sterling silver.
At some point, the volunteers decided to set aside these pricier items for a once-a-year auction that became known as the “treasures” auction. One year the store of treasures became so large that the auction was held in a hotel and included a speaker who was an expert on antiques.
In 1989, when plans to move to a larger location were being researched, the idea of opening a consignment shop was discussed. A committee headed by Carol Cowden led the charge and she, along with a member named Charlotte Wood, wrote up a Business Plan.
The plan was presented to the membership by Marie-France Lefebvre in March of 1992. The proposed shop would be called “Treasures on Consignment” (named after the Treasures Auction) and would open that summer, sharing space in the new building with the Thrift Shop.
