In a museum-like setting, member docents use storytelling skills to provide lively and engaging tours. School tours correlate with LBUSD’s World History curriculum. Asian history and culture are brought to life by viewing art and hearing stories. Teachers and docents agree that experiencing art from other cultures gives children a better understanding of their own world and appreciation of their heritage.
Assistance League of Long Beach provides bus transportation for the participating schools. The goal is to have 100% participation of selected schools’ history students.
Programs are also available to community groups by contacting our office at (562) 627-5650.
Tours of the Howard and Asian Art Collection, a museum-quality collection of Asian artifacts located in the Assistance League of Long Beach Philanthropic Center, are conducted by trained member docents for seventh-grade students in the Long Beach Unified School District and to community groups upon request.
