CAMEO Mentoring
The CAMEO Mentoring Program provides mentoring to under-served, academically promising high school students and re-entry community college women with financial needs. The goal of the multi-year program is to help students determine their career goals and attend college or career training.
CAMEO is a robust program where students participate in monthly mentoring and enrichment activities. They receive annual dress-for-success and school expense stipends. Upon completion of the program, they are eligible to apply for a continuing education scholarship if they have met the GPA requirement and 80% participation in CAMEO mentoring events.
Impact
Since 1987, over 300 students have completed the CAMEO Mentoring Program and nearly all have gone on to higher education. Counselors at Long Beach Unified School District and Long Beach City College nominate academically promising students. This comprehensive program includes: Educational and career-oriented workshops, Cultural activities, Dress-for-success clothing, Paid internships, computer equipment and scholarship upon completion of the program.
Volunteer
Our member volunteers come from a variety of professional backgrounds and share their knowledge and experience as CAMEO mentors. They support each mentee’s academic journey while encouraging educational, personal, and professional growth. Mentors also emphasize the importance of developing life skills, helping students build confidence, stay focused, and navigate their path toward success. Funding for CAMEO’s philanthropic program comes overwhelmingly from community support and through proceeds generated by an Annual Fashion Show.
