Hungry and Homeless
Homelessness and hunger continue to increase in Albuquerque with the rising cost of living. More and more individuals and families struggle to provide basic necessities. Through its Hungry and Homeless program, Assistance League® of Albuquerque provides new underwear, socks, and hygiene products, as well as warm gloves, scarves, coats and beanies in the colder months for people experiencing homelessness. Assistance League of Albuquerque also helps to provide free fresh produce, canned goods and meat for local food markets serving low-income veterans and senior adults.
Our Partnerships
Silver Horizons provides free groceries through weekly food markets and other services to low-income veterans and seniors who may have family members living with them. The food markets include fresh produce, canned goods, bread, and meat, as well as other essential household items. Assistance League of Albuquerque funds the purchase of meat and other food through a local grocer, and our members volunteer their help with the distribution of food at the markets.
Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless (AHCH) provides exceptional health care and other supportive services to the homeless, and helps to raise voices to end home-lessness. Assistance League of Albuquerque provides new underwear, socks and toiletry products, and during the colder months also provides gloves, hand warmers, and beanies, which are distributed through AHCH outreach services. Every other month the Hungry and Homeless committee fills 150 toiletry bags which include sunscreen, lotion, and other items requested by AHCH.
