CHAPTER NEWS

See What We Have Been Up To!

Thank You, Safeway!

Thank You, Safeway!

As part of Safeway’s Nourishing Neighbors Program, we are thrilled to have received a generous grant to enhance our monthly partnership with the Family Supportive Housing Dinner Meal program.

Thank you, Safeway! Your contribution will help us provide a delightful monthly meal that includes a main dish, vegetables and/or salad, bread, dessert, and even chicken nuggets for the children residing there.

Additionally, several times a year, we serve the prepared meals at the Family Supportive Housing residence.

Committee Faire - Discovering What We Are About

Committee Faire – Discovering What We Are About

AL of San Jose coordinated a “Committee Faire” with our members at our April Regular Meeting.
Just in time for our annual membership renewal!

We truly cannot serve our community through our programs without the incredible support of these committees:

By-Laws
Grants
Finance
Resource Development
Marketing
Social Media
Membership
Education
Technology
Strategic Planning
Social
Hospitality

It was a  wonderful opportunity for our members to explore committee roles!

Thank You from Family Supportive Housing

Thank You from Family Supportive Housing

Family Supportive Housing thanks all their volunteers.

“To our beloved volunteers – many have been with us for years.

You cook and clean and serve with a smile. We know that you have gone the extra mile.

You tutor and care for every child. Your impact on kids is totally wild.

Time is not the only gift that deserves cheers. We are so grateful for our beloved volunteers.

Donating bedding and meals is not cheap. Clothing, toiletries and stuffed bears to keep.

Workshops, camp, and holiday events bring so much fun to our residents.

Knowing someone cares, helps families get through. Our beloved volunteers, we are grateful for you!”

With heartfelt appreciation,
Jennifer Saxton, Volunteer Coordinator, Family Supportive Housing

Screening Eyes Early

Screening Eyes Early

10% to 20% of preschoolers have vision problems  which often go undetected. Poor vision  can lead to challenges beyond a child’s eye health and can affect how he or she learns and develops.

Our Screening Eyes Early volunteers are trained to screen the vision of children , ages 3 to 5, in their preschools.

Working with these young children is always full of surprises! Join us!

Reading Enrichments

Reading Enrichments

Each time our Readers Are Leaders volunteers read to students in San Jose classrooms, they also bring enrichment projects that coordinate with each of the 12 books they read during the year.

Teachers can distribute the projects at any time that is convenient or let the students take them home.

Students may work word puzzles, create paper puppets, draw on scratch artboards, play a game, color in a poster or write something about themselves that relates to the book. Some enrichments are for the classroom such board games  or wall posters. All are created by a Readers Are Leaders enrichment team and are unique each year.

Would you like to put your creativity to work? Join AL of San Jose and sign up for the Readers Are Leaders enrichment team.
