We appreciate our members! One recognition is the Ada Edwards Laughlin Award. The Ada Edwards Laughlin Award is named for Mrs. Ada Edwards Laughlin who joined Anne Banning in the original plan for Assistance League. Our original “Ada” was quite a business woman as well as a visionary. She was the administrator of ideas and money for the Assistance League. It is in her memory that the Assistance League of Fullerton presents its annual ADA Award. Our Award Winners 1989 – Present.
Our 2026 ADA Edwards Laughlin Award winner has been a member of Assistance League of Fullerton since 2011. A caring nurse by profession, she never hesitates to come to the assistance of an injured member or suffering family in our community. She has served on many committees including the time demanding Thrift Shop Committee, but her biggest contribution has been to our Operation New Start program. As Operation New Start chairman and now as VP of Philanthropic programs she has extended our community outreach to Orangewood homes, North Orange County Community Education, and special needs. She helped re-organize our voucher program after COVID to accommodate our community families on days when our Thrift Store is closed. She is an enthusiastic and supportive member of the chapter who, like ADA Edwards Laughlin, continues to represent and live the values of our Assistance League.
Helen is a charter member of our Alpha Auxiliary, one of the founders of A Day of Authors. In 2011 Helen moved over to chapter, where she has held many important positions including her current position as chairman of the very successful Healthy Neighborhoods program. Previously, as VP of Philanthropic Programs, she revised our philanthropy agreements to self-renewing agreements, a task that has saved many volunteer hours. During COVID when masks were scarce, with the help of her children, masks miraculously appeared for us to donate to health workers at St. Jude. The important thing about Helen is that she is kind and loving. Like so many of our members, she likes to help others.
