The Silver Santa program was started in 2021 in response to members asking: “Why don’t we do more for our senior citizens?” During COVID our Assisteens® responded by writing notes and bringing gifts to home-bound members whom they called “Grandpals”. The next year the Silver Support program was launched with a $1,400 budget which included a $1,000 contribution from our ALPHA Auxiliary. Christmas gift bags were prepared for the seniors in the Meals on Wheels Fullerton program. Our members realized how important the program was when we received notes saying how wonderful it was to not be forgotten during the holidays. Later in the 2021-2022 fiscal year, Easter gift bags were added for seniors in the Meals on Wheels programs in Fullerton, La Habra and Brea. In 2022-2023 seniors in Buena Park and Placentia/Yorba Linda were included. In 2024-2025 Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring gift bags for 220+ seniors in Fullerton, La Habra, Brea, Buena Park and Placentia/Yorba Linda Meals on Wheels programs were given gifts. This enthusiastic committee enjoys brainstorming gifts for our home-bound seniors and the camraderie of assembling them. For the 2026-2027 fiscal year, thanks to our donors, and chapter members, we plan to increase the budget to $9,000. Won’t you join us in this worthwhile endeavor!
Provides holiday help for families.
Members hand out gift Cards at Pathway’s “Hub of Hope” resource center. The program is in collaboration with Pathways of Hope, community PTA councils, and available local agencies. Local schools identify the families and make appointments for them to receive gifts during a two-week period before the Christmas Holidays.
