Founded in 1937, a group of philanthropic women in Glendale formed an auxiliary supporting the Assistance League Thrift Shop of Southern California. As the organization grew, so did its mission to serve local community needs through volunteerism, philanthropy and programs supporting children and families. In 1943, Assistance League Glendale officially became a charted chapter of National Assistance League®.
Over the decades, the chapter introduced a variety of impactful programs, including volunteer services and scholarships. One of our most recognized programs, Operation School Bell®,continues to provide clothing and essential resources to the underserved students in Glendale.
In the 1960s, the chapter established its first permanent Chapter House and expanded its thrift shop operations by opening Thrift Corner. As membership and philanthropic programs continued to grow, a professional auxiliary, Las Caritas, was also formed.
Today, Assistance League Glendale is proudly headquartered in the historic Kiefer & Eyerick Mortuary building on Harvard Street. This beautifully preserved 1920s Tudor Revival landmark also houses our new thrift store, Thrift Alley.
