OPERATION SCHOOL BELL®

OPERATION SCHOOL BELL supports children and teens in need by funding literacy, early childhood intervention, and STEAM programs, and by distributing clothing and supplies through partner schools and community agencies.

BOOSTER BAGS

BOOSTER BAGS

BOOSTER BAGS provides support to women and children in crisis by providing backpacks/bags containing toiletries, clothing, gift certificates to our Thrift Shop and bus tickets through partner agencies The Living Room and YWCA.

  • Residents of the YWCA Women’s Emergency Shelter and children enrolled in A Special Place
  • Homeless women, men, and children who seek assistance through The Living Room.

SAFE HAVEN

SAFE HAVEN, through our partner agency Women’s Recovery Services, supports women in recovery and their children by supplying recovery and addiction books, workbooks, clothing, bedding, and holiday gifts. 

BRIGHT BEGINNINGS

BRIGHT BEGINNINGS

BRIGHT BEGINNINGS, through the Teen Parent Connections Program of the County of Sonoma Department of Health Services, provides new mothers with baby supplies, books, clothing, and diapers. 

SCHOLARSHIPS

SCHOLARSHIPS

Financial assistance and laptops are provided to eligible teen mothers attending Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State University. 

THRIFT SHOP

Assistance League Thrift Shop is the primary source of funding for our philanthropic programs. We are proud of our reputation as one of the best and friendliest thrift shops in Sonoma County. Our members work hard to make sure the merchandise is always good quality, clean and priced fairly.

Donations Accepted Monday and Wednesday during store open hours.

Thrift Shop Donations

Your donations are always appreciated!  Funds raised benefit children and adults in need or at risk in our community.  Receipts for donations are available for tax deduction purposes. 

At this time we are only able to accept donations Monday and Wednesday, 11-2 PM

The thrift shop sells quality resale merchandise.  All unsalable donations are recycled to other nonprofits.  Please check items you are donating and be sure they are in good condition.  Call us with any questions about donations at (707) 546-9484 during business hours.

For safety and security reasons, donations are not accepted when the shop is not open.  Please, do NOT leave items outside when we are closed.

Donation Guidelines

We do not accept the following items for resale:

  • Large appliances

  • Carpets, unless new and clean – excludes area rugs

  • Cassettes and video tapes

  • Computers, keyboards, monitors, fax machines, printers, scanners

  • Cosmetics – used

  • Crutches, walkers and other health care aids

  • Curtain rods, draperies, shades, blinds

  • Dog houses

  • Food items

  • Glass, mirrors – unfinished edges

  • Hazardous waste, paint, wallpaper, chemicals, batteries, pills

  • Infant cribs, car seats, high chairs, swings, play pens

  • Magazines (old), textbooks, Reader’s Digest, encyclopedias

  • Mattresses, electric blankets, bed pillows, sleeping bags

  • Records, cassette tapes

  • Sinks, toilets

  • Stereo components, speakers

  • Tires, snow chains

  • Toys – broken, incomplete puzzles and games

  • TVs, VCRs

  • Weapons, ammunition, sharp instruments, knives

  • Wire hangers

SENIOR DISCOUNT DAY

Monday is Senior Discount Day at the shop.  Seniors 55 and older receive 10% off of all non-sale items.

FREQUENT SHOPPERS CARD

Get a stamp on your frequent shopper card for each $5 purchase. When your card is full, redeem it on your next visit for a 10% discount on all of your non-sale items.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Assistance League of Sonoma County is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, membership organization that is comprised of multi-talented people working together to fulfill its mission.  We are an organization whose members served 19,707 hours last year to fund and operate our philanthropic programs.  Our volunteers are dedicated to improving the lives of Sonoma County residents through hands-on programs. Membership is open to those who wish to be of service to the community and have the time, creativity and passion to volunteer.  The joy of giving is expressed through extraordinary programs chosen to meet the specific needs of the community.

Join the members who volunteer with Assistance League of Sonoma County.   Choose from the thrift shop, philanthropic programs and committees that interest you and would benefit from your special skills.  Make a difference in your community by sharing your enthusiasm and extending a helping hand while making new friendships that will last a lifetime.

Assistance League of Sonoma County Chapter Membership

Assistance League is a membership organization with an annual dues fee of $75.00. Members support and participate in the philanthropic programs and fundraising activities of the chapter by serving on program committees, working in the Thrift Shop (front or back room), participating in the fundraising activities of the chapter and/or serving in leadership roles to monitor and further the success of the Assistance League of Sonoma County’s philanthropic programs. The member determines the number of hours volunteered and frequency. Members follow their individual skills and interests to find the place they most enjoy serving within the organization.

Voting Members:

  • Support the mission of the chapter.
  • Meetings with socializing time are on the third Thursday of every month 9:30-12:00 except July, August and December. A December gathering is scheduled with no business agenda. Both voting and nonvoting members attend meetings and gatherings.
  • Support and participate in the philanthropic programs and/or fundraising activities of the chapter.
  • Have the right to vote on chapter business and hold office.
  • Pay annual dues of $75.

Nonvoting Members:

  • Support the mission of the chapter.
  • May serve on chapter committees, including acting as appointive chairman.
  • Attend chapter meetings as non-voting members and attend chapter social gatherings.
  • Pay annual dues of $90.

Community Volunteers:

  • Support the mission of the chapter.
  • Assistance League of Sonoma County benefits from the participation of interested community volunteers who offer their time and special skills to the chapter. These individuals, though not chapter members, provide talent and community support.
  • Might assist with a special event, such as a member activity or special shop event.
  • Might offer specialty skill services to the chapter, such as a skill that enhances the valuing or processing of donated items.
  • Might be business owners or professionals in the community donating time or services to the chapter.

Other Financial Commitments:

Per our nonprofit articles of incorporation, the income, assets and property of the Assistance League of Sonoma County are irrevocably dedicated to charitable purposes and no part of the net income, assets or property of the organization shall ever inure to the benefit of any member thereof, or to the benefit of any private persons. As such, the member may be requested to pay toward all or part of the cost of special meals, member social events, and donate a suggested $5 toward food and drinks provided at membership meetings.

About Assistance League

Celebrating over 60 years in Sonoma County!

Assistance League of Sonoma County has made a difference by improving lives in our community for over fifty years.  Eighty-four trained volunteers contributed 19,700 hours of service by assisting Sonoma County residents through Assistance League programs.  The major source of funds is Assistance League’s Thrift Shop, featuring quality resale items and donations.  Assistance League is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation and donations are tax deductible.
